77. David Robertson HERRIOT+ was born in 1888 in Sanson Seal.. He served in the military between 1914 and 18 in 7 NF. Retired Capt.. He died after 1960 in Hopeville, Berwick-Upon-Tweed. He was buried in Cremated Warriston, Edinburgh. He was Electrical Engineer,Timber Importer & Joinery Mftr. He was educated in In Edinburgh Cargilfield School, Fettes College. Cambridge Uni.. He was living in Silancia in Norham then Ava Lodge then East Ord, Berwick.. He was C. of E.. Quite badly wounded in 1914-18 war,having left Fettes College in 1911 with a mathematical scholarship to Cambridge University.

After war worked for "Metro-Vic" in Manchester,designing large transformers,without much pleasure.

Played hockey at County level and cricket at local level,also tennis.

About 1925 his brother James was left in sole charge at Allan Bros.and he came back to help as a director.

Lived at Ava Lodge with his mother & sister Jean initially;later joined by Jean's close friend Mary McWhirr.He & Jean & Mary McW latterly lived in East Ord together. When Jean died he married Mary.

David Robertson HERRIOT+ and Mary MCWHIRR were married in 1957 in Berwick. Mary MCWHIRR was born in 1910. She died in 1994 in Borders Gen. Hosp After Car Accident.. She was buried in Cremated, Morton Hall, Edinburgh. She was Nurse < Matron. She was eldest daughter of family ,left in straightened circumstances,when father (a GP in Norham) died, and she was 19/20 years older than her youngest sister.



Her mother (nee Hogg) was a battler and brought them all up on her own in Edinburgh,running a boarding house for Geo.Watson's Sch.. (Known as "Granny McWhirr".)



Mary played golf & bridge.She didn't touch dogs.



Died after a car accident with her youngest sister,in Border General Hospital,St Boswells.
