31. David(3) HERRIOT+
was born in 1855 in Leetside, Whitsome. He died in 1919 in Ava Lodge,Berwick-Upon-Tweed.
He was buried in Berwick Cemetry. He was Timber Importer, Allan
Brothers, Chairman & MD. Also Mayor of Berwick. He was living in
at Sanson Seal (a big house), Nr. Berwick then Ava Lodge in Berwick.
He was C. of E.. 17 years old when father died and Herriot Bank
came under Trustees. One trustee was a farmer Allan.
Having married their favorite niece (this may be unkind & unjustified.For
several generations Herriots & Allans had been neighbouring farmers &
had intermarried) the brothers Allan took David on as a junior partner at Allan
Bros.in Tweedmouth
(timber merchants & importers).
On deaths of brothers.Allan in 1890s business became Ltd.Co.,and David H. main
shareholder & M.D..
Was Mayor of Berwick .Lived in Sanson Seal and Ava Lodge.
Once went to Hyere, S.France to dry out (shortly before death). David(3) HERRIOT+
and Thomasina PEARSON+ were married on 30 Jul 1884 in ?Eyemouth.
Thomasina PEARSON+ was born about 1855 in ?Eyemouth.
She died in 1936 in Ava Lodge, Berwick-Upon-Tweed. She was buried
in Berwick Cemetry. She was Housewife. She was living
in Sanson Seal, Silancia in Norham., Ava Lodge.. ? was daughter of
Minister in Eyemouth.
Had at least 2 spinster sisters,one Mary lived in Ava Lodge beforehand,another
across the road.
Smoked like a chimney using elegant Dunhill holder.
Never travelled by train & swore never would.
A quiet little lady to her Grandson,who lived out her life inactively with her
unmarried children,but played bridge & did crosswords.
Refused to have rooks culled in her garden. David(3) HERRIOT+ and Thomasina
PEARSON+ had the following children:

in Queen Margaret's School, York. She was living in Sanson Seal,
Ava Lodge, Norham, East Ord; en famille. She was C. of E..
A much loved aunt & great aunt.
Was expelled from school in York for smoking on roof.
Encouraged nephews & nieces to drive her car long before they were 17 years
old (on a quiet country road).
1926 took nephew Allan up for a 10 minutes flight in an old biplane (3 open cockpits)
on hire from field behind Canty's Primary School.
1914-18 worked at one time in boiler factory in Tweedmouth & objected to
boss spying on girls through keyhole; action was to poke him in the eye with
a pencil.
Said to have wanted to marry a wounded man with both legs amputated.
Was head of Girl Guides in Norham (and worried that so many Guides got pregnant).
Looked after her mother & brother David, also a great friend Mary McWhirr,
with whom she had worked in wartime hospitals.
