76. Philip Douglas MACLAGAN+ was born in 1901 in Swatow, South China. He received a degree between 1919 and 1925 in Royal Academy Schools. He was living in 1937 in Meadle in the Vale of Aylesbury. He served in the military between 1939 and 46 in N. Africa & Italy. He died in 1972 in Totnes, Devon. He was educated ?1910+ in Edinburgh, Aberdeen, London (QE Sch. Barnet, City of London Sch.). He was a Painter, sometime part-time teacher of arts.. He retired in Totnes, S. Devon. Education.
Won Senior Art Prize at Queen Elizabeth School, Barnet; the Worshipful Company of Painters and Glaziers Medal for drawing at the City of London School.

Occupation as a painter.
1926 Travelled in Italy. 1927 in London painted and taught drawing part-time at City of London School. Exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1922, and continued every year except four so to do until 1940. Best known as a landscape painter.Latterly devoted much time to dioramas.

Took up also bookbinding in the 1930s, studying under Douglas Cockerell at the Central School of Art, which brought in income even in The Depression.

Philip Douglas MACLAGAN+ and Dorothea BLAKE were married in 1929. Dorothea BLAKE was educated at the Byam Shaw & Cole School of Art then the Roya Academy Schools between 1917 and 22. She received a degree between 1917 and 22. She was living between 1920 and 29 in London with a Studio. She was living in 1937 in Meadle in the Vale of Aylesbury (made a garden). She was a painter.(Travelled much in Italy, France, Holland. Exhibited over 40 paintings at the R.A.). She retired in Totnes, S. Devon. She was born 1900 ? in Greenock, Scotland.
